It is another away fixture for The Lingers this weekend - it will be two weeks until we play at home again - with a trip to play Peacehaven & Telscombe with an important difference, it will be at The Saffrons in Eastbourne where play-off winners Eastbourne Town play. Peacehaven are undertaking groundworks like we will be shortly and need a temporary home.
Peacehaven made a perfect start to the season with wins away at Shoreham and Roffey. Then came a blip as when Shoreham visited in the FA Cup they left with a 2-0 win and a visit to Loxwood brought a 3-1 defeat. They are currently on a run of three wins on the bounce having beaten Little Common and in the FA Vase, Snodland Town of the SECFL, and a struggling Eastbourne United side so they are currently third in the table. We will arrive having taken a point on Monday at Little Common which was an improvement on our visit there last season but perhaps less than expected against a side that had lost all the four previous league matches without scoring. It has been an uneven start for us with gaps in our fixtures due to the postponement of the trip to AFC Varndeanians and not being required to play in the FA Vase until October so we sit in fourteenth place but with a game in hand. It is quite tight at the moment and an additional three points would have us in eighth place.
Our last visit to The Saffrons was one of the standout games of last season as we came away with a 2-0 with on a December evening. More of the same would be nice but it will require a solid team effort once again.
