Our improved form in January and the latter part of December has been matched by being well behaved on the field as well. The SCFL keep a record of red and yellow cards and during December and January we have not had any red cards and a limited number of yellow cards to be named as the Respect winners for the period. Well done lads.
It was also a good weekend for the team despite our 'home' fixture that was relocated to Loxwood falling victim to a soggy pitch. So the Bottom 6 Shootout did not happen but the defeat of Shoreham at Saltdean United saw them drop a place below us on goal difference but still with a game in hand that will be played this weekend as they host play-off chasing Crowborough Athletic. Saltdean will be level on games played after the weekend as they play mid-table Midhurst & Easebourne but can only close to two points behind us.
Bottom side Little Common picked up their fourth league win with a victory at a struggling Wick. They host Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday and will still have a game in hand on us which will be played midweek when Haywards Heath Town visit. Wick are above us by one on goal difference and as they have played the same number of games as us they are not in action this Saturday. Pagham's defeat at Bexhill United means they are also in the battle at the bottom as they are only a point above Wick but with the best goal difference amongst us. Having played 27 games they are not playing this weekend. The final team in the mix is Loxwood and they have a visit to Haywards Heath Town as one of their two games in hand on us.
Our U23 team played their first league fixture since winning at Broadbridge Heath in November with a visit to St Francis Rangers. They blew the cobwebs off with a 2-1 win with goals from Richie Wetton and Conor Wilford to give the new management team a record of two wins out of two. The win takes us above Roffey to sixth in the table with games in hand on all the teams above that in theory could see us reach second place. Let us see if we can make a start on that with games against Horsham YMCA and Horley Town at our Oakwood FC 'home' in the next two weeks.
